Welcome to Fresh Edit

I’m so glad you’re here!

The blog portion of my website is new, and I hope to be able to post tidying advice and show details of larger projects in this space. If you’re toying with the idea of decluttering, hiring an organizer, or searching for a new system to get yourself organized, this is where you’ll find help.

Minimalist modern tidy organized home office

Make it work for you.

This is my home office. I work best without distractions, so my space is clean and tidy. To some, it might look empty, but to me, it’s functional and sparks joy. Especially the watercolor portraits of my children by Laura Eliason.

If you’ve got specific questions, you can always reach out via my Contact page, or book a virtual session with me. I’ll gather information about your projects ahead of our session and present detailed tips and methods just for you. Not every client is ready for a lengthy explanation of the KonMari® Method to turn their home inside out all at once, so you can send me photos and say, “here is my office. I work from home, and it’s not functional for me. HELP.”

I’ll also link to products I use or items I’ve seen other professionals use in their work. Where possible, these will be affiliate links for which I gather a tiny commission should you decide to click through and purchase.

My own style of organization changes from month to month, so I know how different each client’s needs can be. If everything is perfectly fitted into adorable bins, what happens when you restock? Or start to buy different products? When your kids are older and can feed themselves responsibly, their food will relocate to accessible shelving. When they turn into teenagers and mow down your supplies like a swarm of locusts, there will be more bulk shopping. Maybe you were an avid cook and used up decanted baking supplies and spices regularly, but now you only go all out during holidays. Are those ingredients still serving you in a container without an expiration date?

Just as life ebbs and flows, so will the systems in your home. Kids become more self sufficient, elderly parents become less self sufficient, new pets get into low storage, older pets need specialty foods and supplements, bigger messes require a variety of cleaning supplies, a new piece of furniture might only tolerate one bespoke polishing product, and so on for all eternity.

Marie Kondo says once you complete a full Tidying Festival (tidy and declutter every inch of your home using her method) you don’t ever have to do it again, but there will always be times when you need to refresh and reboot on a smaller scale. Your kid takes up hockey and has a ton of bulky gear. Your daughter turned 16 and how you need to clear that neglected space in your garage to make room for an extra car. Your partner found out he has a gluten sensitivity and is adding new safe products to the pantry that need to be stored separately. We asses. We pivot. We adjust.

Please remember to always give yourself and your housemates grace. Big changes are a challenge for everyone, and transforming your home is hard work. If you need help, reach out to Fresh Edit!
